Aquifer recharge is a natural process where water (e.g., from rainfall) infiltrates through the land surface and down to aquifers (groundwater). This water can transport nutrients or bacteria with it. MAR enhances this natural process by ensuring this water is of high quality and supplying it to leaky basins and races where and when it is of greatest benefit to the targeted aquifer/s.

Our MAR sites are spread across the Hekeao/Hinds Plains, sited where they produce the greatest benefits, particularly to spring-fed lowland streams and domestic supplies. Results to date show significant improvements in groundwater levels and quality. Further information is available in our Supporting Documents.
